Where life is an adventure not a race!

BE PREPARED FOR "WINTER" WEATHER IN THE SAN BERNARDINO MOUNTAINS

The weather is ever changing in our mountain region . Use the tools you have available to you to get the best picture; weather channel, news reports, weather bug and a preset Lake Arrowhead thermometer in your phone or other device. Remember, not even the weather people can predict what will really happen.
Don't get stuck in the snow without a plan.
We use www.weather.com, type in our zip code, 92352. You will see a weather tab, click on the 10 day or 7 day outlook. It will give you an idea of what to expect.

Here are some tips to review before you plan your adventure to Arrowhead Ranch:
1. Bring SNOW CHAINS that fit your tires. Even four-wheel drive vehicles must carry chains when it snows.
2. Carry water with you in your car. Drinking plenty of water will reduce the possibility of a negative reaction to the higher altitude.
3. Bring a heavy coat/jacket, gloves and a hat. In the event you get stuck in a snow storm, having a heavy jacket with you will be a relief from the cold. Incase you need to put on snow chains, you will be protected from the elements.
4. Carry a blanket in your car. Blankets are a useful addition to your cargo. A blanket can be a great thing to have in the winter, to stay warm or in summer, to picnic.
5. Bring and charge your cell phone. Don't forget to bring your cell phone charger. Cell phone service is not the best in all areas of the mountains. It is handy to have if you need it. You can hike to a cell location and place your emergency call.
6.Download a map to our site using arrowheadranchconferencecenter.com or arrowheadkidscamp.com. If you prefer to use mapquest.com type in; 480 Cottage Grove, Lake Arrowhead, CA 92352. Make sure you review the route you are taking before you leave. Lighting conditions can change quickly so if you are familiar with where you are going, you will likely get there with less stress.
7. COTTAGE GROVE IN THE SNOW can be hazardous. Cottage Grove is a beautiful street to drive up and down. When it is snowing and our long street has not been plowed it can be terribly dangerous. Please use caution and take Rainbow Road off HWY. 173. At the end of Rainbow is Arrowhead Ranch.

5,500 feet is a long way up and we do get snow. We recieve between 3-7 feet of snow each season!
Entrance to snowy Arrowhead Ranch
When the snow gets deep enough there are plenty of onsite activities to do so you never have to leave your front door.
The snow cave is a favorite among our young builders!
With Arrowhead Ranch as 12 acres to build snowmen, make snow angels, animal tracking in the snow, snow play and throwing snowballs.
Arrowhead Ranch has areas to play and run around in the snow.
1. Layering is the key to staying warm. Pack your t-shirt, turtleneck, sweatshirt, gloves, hats and jacket. Bring extra socks, the socks are the first thing to get wet and it is no fun playing with cold feet.
2. Water is mandatory. Arrowhead Ranch is located at about 5,500feet above sea level. The higher elevation affects our bodies differently. If you come to Arrowhead Ranch without plenty of water in your system, you can suffer from "altitude sickness." Our bodies react to dehydration by getting headaches, stomach aches, nausea and/or vomiting.  We recommend that you drink at least one bottle of water before you leave and another on your ride up the mountain. Continue drinking water throughout the day so that you total at least six bottles of water a day. In the event you end up with altitude sickness, we recommend sipping water and eating soda crackers. Once you are able to keep the water down, your signs disappear and you are back to normal.
